Republican Senate candidate’s hedge fund managed $415m in Russian debt

#David #McCormick, the Republican candidate for US Senate in #Pennsylvania,
led the largest hedge fund in the world while it managed and advised funds holding hundreds of millions of dollars in Russian debt,
documents obtained by the Guardian show.

Filings with the US Department of Labor, known as "form 5500s", show that ⚠️from 2017 to 2021, #Bridgewater #Associates managed funds holding as much as $415m in Russian sovereign bonds.

Since 2019 👉these types of investment have been subject to increasingly stringent US #sanctions, in response to Russian aggression in Ukraine.

Holding such assets is not illegal, but ♦️the question of McCormick’s work with foreign investments and how it might influence his political career has already coloured his current campaign, against the incumbent Democratic senator, #Bob #Casey.

McCormick stepped down as Bridgewater CEO in 2022, in order to run for Congress and a month before Russia mounted a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

But sanctions were first levied three years before that when, according to the firm itself, as co-CEO from 2017 to 2020 and then as sole CEO, McCormick was responsible for “overseeing the firm’s strategy, governance, and operations”.

McCormick himself has saidabout his time as Bridgewater boss: “Whatever we did I’m responsible for.”

The US firm that paid indicted FBI informant Smirnoff is tied to Trump associates in Dubai

An American company that paid the now indicted FBI informant #Alexander #Smirnov in 2020 is connected to a UK company owned by #Trump business #associates in Dubai, according to business filings and court documents.

Smirnov is now accused of #lying to the FBI about #Hunter #Biden and his father, President Joe Biden, alleging that they engaged in a bribery scheme with executives at the Ukrainian energy company #Burisma.

Smirnov’s accounts to the FBI, beginning in 2020, that federal prosecutors now say are fabrications, served as a major justification of the House impeachment investigation into the Bidens.

Republican lawmakers have repeatedly touted Smirnov as a reliable informant, and the chairman of the House oversight committee, James Comer, even threatened to hold FBI director Christopher Wray in contempt unless he “handed over” a June 2020 FBI form with Smirnov’s claims to the committee.

The Guardian · US firm that paid indicted FBI informant tied to Trump associates, records revealBy Guardian staff reporter

Whoa. It came up in conversation yesterday how much experience I have being a #college #student...

Counting by calendar years where I was enrolled at least half time (most of it was full-time) for half the year (most of it was the full academic year including summers)... I have *eleven* (11) *years* of college experience... and no degree yet!

But, if everything that's still up in the air lands right, I will have my #associates for transfer in #ComputerScience at the conclusion of this semester! (And, I think worst case scenario would be having it at the end of this summer semester.)

That's not even including the non-college #classes I have taken, like the #CreativeNonFiction writing class I took through the art museum in the last city I lived in, the #NonviolentCommunication course, guitar lessons through the library...

Can #learning be a #SpecialInterest in and of itself?

Creating an environment that is supportive to all #Researchers . One that isn’t exclusionary or grounded in you’re-not-good-enough hierarchy, open to all #Academia to share their experiences /questions/connect just to name a few of the traditionally forgotten #Education community #DNP #EdD #Associates #Masters #Bachelors #PsyD #PharmD and of course welcoming to any #Research assistant #cats #dogs :love_pusheen: - stay tuned!
