Went to see Mickey 17, yesterday. Good, if frustrating movie (and, you'd probably hate it if: you were a Trumpie; had enough awareness to understand that Trump-y and MAGAty people were being sent-up).
I hadn't eaten before the movie, so we opted to stop by the snack stand for food. I'd gotten the tickets on a discount, so the snacks (two hotdogs and a 20oz bottle of water) were actually slightly more-expensive than our pair of seats were. As we were waiting for the dogs to come off the rollers, I noticed that there were signs for #DoorDash and #UberEats in the food pickup area. I was a bit baffled. I mean, who's saying to themselves, "I really want overpriced movie snacks and I want to exacerbate the price by adding food delivery fees to it".
I further thought to myself, "I guess this kind of fiscal-idiocy is why there's people out there using Klarna with Instacart".
Caution: Extremist viewpoint.
Avoiding #doordash's ridiculous pricing and fees (for you AND the restaurant) is really easy. Fact: You did it before the Pandemic, you can do it again.
Just go get it. Feet, roller-blades, scooter, bike, bus, motorcycle, car. Experience outside, and get it.
you can now buy burritos with buy now pay later loans

Literally no bites on any job apps of any kind -__- 'Bout to say fuck it, #DoorDash like crazy until I've got enough runway to reach Fall 2025 semester, and then dive into #rust again until Fall 2025 starts. The tree falling on our condo right as I was starting to get in the swing of rust the first time really fucked me up. Several months of absorption knocked straight outta me as I entered barebones survival mode yet again. But I'll try again. The #rust ecosystem needs some more actual Free Software zealots in it; it's entirely too full of oPeN sOUrCe-licensed shit.
Random thought on this first #BlackoutDay:
If you know anyone who relies on #DoorDash, #UberEats, or similar services for income, their average earnings will probably suffer today.
Reach out and give them some money today if you can spare it. No delivery, nothing back. Just here you go.
There is nothing more small business than being a possibly uninsured gig worker in this economy and #MutualAid helps everyone involved.

@jeffjarvis @caban4 We’re participating with some workarounds. We’re getting Krispy Kreme doughnuts via #Doordash on Thursday. And we are having foundation work done on our house on Friday, but since it’s under warranty no money will change hands so it’s all good.

And some other random tesla dude just took a selfie with it when the owner left.
high probability it was not an ironic selfie?
anyway... these are the things I see in my #doordash life
Tubefilter: Twitch is using its “Battle of the Brands” to demonstrate the potential of its ‘Fortnite’ island. “Twitch‘s junk food battle royale is dropping into The Glitch. That’s the name of the Fortnite island that will host Battle of the Brands, a DoorDash-sponsored tournament that will be contested by a dozen top streamers. Battle of the Brands features $20,000 of prizes, […]
Just took a first stab at this year’s tax filing which will include #doordash earnings ($~16000) and deductions. So far, no real impact. I was a little worried I would end up needing to pay a bunch on the DD income.
Ride-share giant Uber filed a lawsuit Friday against DoorDash, accusing the delivery outfit of stifling competition by intimidating restaurant owners into exclusive deals. Specifically, Uber claims DoorDash pressures restaurants into having DoorDash solely handle orders placed through restaurants’ own websites. “Uber’s case has no merit,” a DoorDash spokesperson said. Read about the case at @Techcrunch:

Person I work with ordered coffee and a light breakfast from DoorDash, was in the process of sipping the coffee when DD sent him this notice, and he tried to tell Customer Service that everything was in fact just fine, and the auto-robot game him a credit which was more than the purchase price plus delivery and tip.
Ah, technology.
For the math adverse, 831 minutes is more than 13, approaching 14, hours.
The Cox Cash Saver supermarket is on #DoorDash which I feel like defeats the purpose of both Doordash and a supermarket that's trying to be price and selection competitive with the food bank.
