"China on Monday accused Washington of abusing tariffs and warned countries against striking a broader economic deal with the United States at its expense, ratcheting up its rhetoric in a spiralling trade war between the world's two biggest economies.

Beijing will firmly oppose any party striking a deal at China's expense and 'will take countermeasures in a resolute and reciprocal manner,' its Commerce Ministry said."

I had a bit of an a-ha yesterday. I knew this, but I hadn't internalized it.

While we talk about the tariffs as a tax, it's probably more like a VAT than a Sales Tax.

The company importing the product has to pay the tariff to get the product in. If the product is coming from China, they need to pay roughly an additional $124 for ever $100 item. If you don't have that cash budgeted, your product sits in a container, off shore.

"Normally, these two major asset classes are noncorrelated. That means when stocks fall, bonds rise. That didn't happen in this month's market tumult. U.S. stocks, bonds and the dollar all declined in tandem.

The cause of the risk-off sentiment on U.S.-based assets was twofold, Wall Street experts say. One, confusion caused by the Trump administration's tariff policy put in question the U.S.' reliability as a trading partner. And two, concern is rising among investors that U.S. assets are being viewed less favorably by global investors.

And while Wall Street experts say that odds of the U.S. Treasury market losing its haven status are low, they say the sharp decline in both stocks and bonds is a wake-up call."

Investor's Business Daily · Where To Put Money If Treasuries Lose Their Safe-Haven StatusU.S. Treasuries, long viewed as a risk-free investment and a haven in tough times, have been behaving badly.

just watched the news on TVNZ and a guy in Lyttelton has taken American spirits off his shelves in the pub he owns.

Makes me think that we should all think twice before we buy something.

The trouble is what products are American? Is there a website that will list brand names that are owned bu US companies?

if not can someone create one? I would do it but don't have the knowledge or web dev skills.

#Trump #tarrifs forcing #Pakistan to divert hard earned cash reserves to the american regime.

Naked attempt to pause Pak's exemplary #EnergyTransition, and force us to buy American oil in a deal to have the tarrifs removed.

Why couldn't they offer us solar panels instead? Oh wait.

We have a huge American hangover. Its past time we tried "balancing" between the US and China and rework our policies to reflect a multipolar world.
