Senator #KirstenGillibrand (D-NY) is basically a wholly owned subsidiary of #Coinbase, #a16z, and the rest of the US crypto industry (as this Op-Ed in CoinDesk makes abundantly clear).

Unfortunately she never got the memo about how the preferred nomenclature is now “#tokenization” and “RWAs” because “#Web3” just makes people think of monkey JPGs / #NFTs.

What’s really happening here is that Circle / Coinbase are trying to get the US Government to legislate #Tether out of their market. While I support this goal I don’t think legitimizing Circle’s #USDC - who are, if anything, worse about compliance than Tether - is good policy.

CoinDesk · Why We Need a Bipartisan Stablecoin Bill – GillibrandThe new Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act lays the groundwork for a new era of American exceptionalism, says Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, of New York.

#Apollo, one of the largest private equity / private credit companies on the planet (they manage half a trillion dollars, more than the GDP of many countries) is about to build a marketplace to dump their (overvalued) investments on the public.

realistically at the valuations they are currently giving these assets - valuations other investors would not pay for them - dumping everything on the public is their best way out of the pickle they have found themselves in.

this will be completely legal because they will "tokenize" these assets "on the #blockchain", which will mean the #SEC has no oversight over this new market. standard disclosures about ownership, cash flows, and so one will not be required.

this is why the private equity industry (in particular #Blackrock, the other 200 kg gorilla in the field) has been super gung ho about "#tokenization".

Today I received an email from one of my banks about the imminent arrival of Paze.

Back in October, Early Warning announced the digital wallet Paze offered by its owners Bank of America, Truist, Capital One, JP Morgan Chase, PNC Bank, US Bank and Wells Fargo, along with Elan to compete against Google, Apple, and PayPal.

The bottom line is that #Tokenization will now be available at the #POS. It’s about time!

You might be familiar with what I'm terming the "Token Wars" - in which #LLM and #GenAI companies seek to ingest text, image, audio and video content to create their #ML models. Tokens are the basic unit of data input into these models - meaning that #scraping of web content is widespread.

In retaliation, many sites - such as Reddit, Inc. and Stack Overflow - are entering into content sharing deals with companies like OpenAI, or making their sites subscription only.

Another solution that has emerged recently is content blocking based on user agent. In web programming, the client requesting a web page identifies themself - usually as a browser or a bot.

User agents can be blocked by a website's robots.txt file - but only if the user agent respects the robots.txt protocol. Many web scrapers do not. Taking this a step further, network providers like Cloudflare are now offering solutions which block known token scraper bots at a a network level.

I've been playing with one of these solutions called #DarkVisitors for a couple weeks after learning it about it on The Sizzle and was **amazed** at how much traffic to my websites were bots, crawlers and content scrapers.
